"Daftar may be the enemy of most daughters:
you are the enemy of all ladies, and you are the enemy of my honor." To a
particular extent, I realize and can relate genuinely to the attitude of DaftarSitus Judi. I have not a problem with Daftar's philosophy or the fight
corruption within the Maori community. However, after reading his recent
article, I believe his ideas aren't well thought out.
I am not ready to condemn someone since they
choose to become listed on Maori women's movements. I believe every person has
the right to free speech and expression. However, I believe Daftar is by using
this fight to further their own interests. His views and beliefs about the
entire world and its attitudes towards Maori women are typical twisted and i
think, he's attempting to further their own interests in the Maori community at
the cost of others.
Most Maori women will agree that there is not
just a woman's reproductive role or right that is absolute or unbreakable. You
will find, however, many issues which should be addressed as the population
numbers increase.
What anyone views as offensive or hurtful,
another may view differently. I recognize that Daftar thinks that the writer of
the controversial article had crossed the line, but once we stand today as a
culture, we have many issues which need to be addressed. It is essential to
take into account those in the Maori communities and other individuals who do
not share the exact same views.
There are many issues concerning Maori law and
Maori gender equality, which require the eye of many of us in the Maori
community. It is essential that the Maori, Australian and American
nationalities have a voice when it comes to this issue and all parties should
address any issues that are deserving of consideration. For Daftar to talk
about rape as a Maori "weapon" (which he did), shows exactly how
little he understands or cares in regards to the feelings of Maori women. The
sexual violence of yesteryear and present needs to be discussed as it was,
never as Daftar believes it should be.
Several problems were not solved by Western
Australia or the United States. We must hold our leaders accountable for the
problems of yesteryear and the near future, along with what we are able to do
to ease current concerns.
It is time that Daftar stood up and be counted
and make a stand against his negative beliefs about Maori women. I am hoping
Daftar can do this so that people can all unite and move forward.
